American Hospital Association Announces Leaders for Small or Rural Section
Joann Anderson, MSN, FACHE, president and CEO of Southeastern Health in Lumberton, N.C., was announced as the chair for the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Section for Small or Rural Hospitals in 2015. Mary Ellen Pratt, president and CEO of St. James Parish Hospital in Lutcher, La., was named the chair-elect and will become chair in 2016.
Other leaders named include Larry W. Veitz, chief executive officer of Spearfish Regional Hospitals in South Dakota., as liaison to the governing council from the AHA Board of Trustees and Paul R. Bengston, CEO at Northeastern Vermont Regional in Vermont, as immediate past chair.
Anderson has a background in nursing and served as CEO of Pikeville Medical Center in Kentucky before joining Southeastern Health as president and CEO in 2007. In addition, she serves on the North Carolina Hospital Association Board of Directors and is a fellow at the American College of Healthcare Executives.
The AHA’s Section for Small or Rural Hospitals is a governing council comprised of 18 people that represent the AHA in regards to federal policy issues and member services initiatives. In addition to serving as small and rural hospitals’ advocate on the Hill, it provides educational opportunities for hospitals and health care leaders and serves as a source of information on health care issues and trends.
